Frequently Asked Questions

Is psychoanalysis like in the movies, where you lay on the couch and the therapist says nothing? All of us are trained in classical Freudian techniques, but we practice analysis face to face, on the couch, or even virtually. We talk and ask questions, but we are still very interested in the unconscious mind!

Do you take insurance?

We don't take any insurances, but will help you fill out paperwork to get reimbursed if you have out of network benefits!

Do you write emotional support animal letters?

Due to the demand and new liabilities that come with vouching for your pet, we no longer write emotional support animal letters, but can point you in the direction of people who specialize in this!

Do you do evaluations for disability?

We generally don't do disability evaluations, or other kinds of occupational or academic evaluations, unless we have been working with someone on a regular basis for 6 months or more.

Do you do psychiatric or psychological evaluations for legal purposes?

We don't do forensic evaluations because we prefer to spend time with our patients and not in court rooms.

I need my records sent to another doctor.  Can you do this for me?

Yes!  We will just need a release of medical information form filled out and signed by you.

I'm not sure I'm ready for psychoanalysis. Do you offer traditional psychotherapy?

Yes! All of The Young Freuds are licensed and trained psychiatrists, psychologists, psychotherapists or social workers.

I don't live in NY or LA.  Can I still do virtual sessions?

Current laws in the US are that we must be licensed in the state where you are living to provide mental health treatment.

Can I do virtual sessions if I need medications?

Controlled-substance medications (Adderall, Xanax) require at least one in-person visit.

What if I need to cancel my appointment?

You can cancel or reschedule online up to 24 hours before your scheduled appointment.  We can't reliably schedule someone else into your spot with less notice than that, so we don't reimburse last-minute cancellations except for emergencies.
